Nationally there has been a lot to cheer about. We have elected a Democratic President and increased the Democratic control of the House and Senate with the possibility of a filibuster-proof Senate. In Arizona we didn’t fair as well although we added another member to our Congressional team from CD 1 and as of this writing took two out of three seats on the Corporation Commission. We took our lumps in the State Legislature. So I will be selfish and hope Governor Napolitano doesn’t leave us for a position in the Obama administration. It will mean a lot of work for us to push back against this State Legislature.
We also have to work harder to fix things in our County elections. There are still gaps in the chain-of-custody of our ballots, for example and procedures that didn’t follow the Arizona Revised Statutes or the Secretary of States manual. Election Integrity groups will be working on this for the next two years. DFA-MC will be discussing these items at our upcoming meetings starting with a discussion of the Arizona Revised Statutes at our December 3rd meeting. Please join us at El Penasco Restaurant at 6:30pm. We will also discuss our experiences at the polls.
