Education is Essential Dinner June 7th

Democracy For America – Maricopa County invites you to our annual spring fundraising dinner to support our efforts to bring progressive change to the greater Phoenix area and state of Arizona. This spring our state focus is on the massive cuts to education and what to do about it.

Come join us on Sunday June 7th at China Chili’s to socialize with fellow Phoenix progressives at one of Phoenix’s finest restaurants, and help your local chapter of DFA work to educate and empower citizens to effectively participate in local politics. Our speakers will be education specialists Eric Meyer, legislator from LD 11 and Scottsdale School Board member, Democratic minority leader and Phoenix Union High School Governing Board member, David Lujan and Democratic activist and candidate in LD15 for Representative Katie Hobbs, who as a wife and mother of two

understands the importance of supporting strong schools. MC for the event is Cynthia Black of Action Point.

What is DFA Campaign Academy?

The DFA Campaign Academy mission is to focus, network, and train grassroots activists in the skills and strategies to take back our country, manage successful campaigns or run for office themselves.

Campaign Academy weekends are 16 hours of interactive workshops that bring hundreds of local activists, campaign staff and candidates together for 2 days of intensive campaign training.

Experienced campaign professionals lead sessions in voter contact, fundraising, communications, on-line organizing and much more to empower progressive activists with the skills to win elections. And of course, everyone receives their own copy of DFA’s 180-page Campaign Training Manual.

All DFA asks is a small contribution of $60 to DFA to help us cover the costs. Don’t worry if you can’t afford it, you can always find someone to sponsor you through our training scholarship fund and we offer reduced tuition rates to those in need.

Protest the AZ Legislature’s Drastic Cuts to Higher Education

Protest from 12:00 -1:30 p.m.

Students are outraged at the Arizona Legislature’s proposed budget cuts to

Arizona Universities and we’re taking a stand! 40% cuts would destroy education in Arizona and be seriously detrimental to the state as a whole.

In order to make any long-term economic improvements, Arizona must prioritize higher education. The public universities pump billions of dollars into the state’s economy each year and create tens of thousands of jobs.

JOIN STUDENTS, FACULTY, PARENTS, and REGENT FROM ACROSS THE STATE as we protest these cuts. Protests will be from Noon-1:30pm at the Arizona State Capitol. 1700 W. Washington Phoenix 85012.

Look for black and white signs that say “40%=Death.”

Show your support by wearing black.

The legislative session is going to be in full force very soon. Carol Corsica will present a PowerPoint of AZ Legislature basics. We will be discussing possible legislation regarding Election Integrity. Let’s review the changes we were looking for and what we might be concerned about that could be introduced by the SOS, etc.

Sunlight for Elections

Did you know that the Libertarian Party sued Maricopa County Elections because they didn’t follow procedures concerning the hand-count audit? Although the judge agreed that the basic complaints were legitimate, he said they didn’t rise to a need for a second hand-count audit. What other procedures aren’t followed in our elections?

Come to the DFA-MC meeting on December 3rd at El Penasco Restaurant, 19 E. Broadway, Tempe (corner of Broadway and Mill) at 6:30pm where members of the Election Integrity Coalition will present some of the things they have learned and what we can do to correct problems. Come and tell the group what problems occurred at your polling place. Plan for the Brewer administration now that Janet is leaving.
