When Will You Get Mad Enough to Fight?

Here in Arizona we get a double dose of Republican indifference to the needs of our citizens. We have Congressmen like Jon Kyl arguing that unemployment benefits dissuade people from job-hunting “because people are being paid even though they’re not working” and” … If anything, as I said, it’s a disincentive. And the same thing with the COBRA extension and the other extensions here”.

Then there is Trent Franks “…Far more of the African-American community is being devastated by the policies of today, than were being devastated by the policies of slavery.”

We all know about the Republicans in Congress and healthcare – they will do anything to protect the insurance and pharmaceutical companies no matter how much they harm the public.

Here in Arizona the Republican legislature will do anything to destroy Clean Elections and our Public School System with budget cuts. They will eliminate the KidsCare Program leaving 50,000 children without health insurance and rollback health care dollars for AHCCCS recipients leaving 311,000 citizens without healthcare coverage. But they will “encourage” business to come to Arizona by cutting taxes. Will they ever learn?

Now it is up to you, you can do nothing and let the Republicans destroy our State and country or you can fight. You can join rallies, write letters to the editor and call your legislators and let them know what you want. Most important, do more than just vote. Pick a candidate or candidates and support them financially as well as helping them campaign.

We have Democratic candidates running for the Arizona Legislature in most LD’s and candidates in all the CD’s. You can replace Trent Franks with John Thrasher, replace John Schadegg with Jon Hulburd and replace Jeff Flake with Rebecca Schneider. You will also have the chance to replace McCain/Hayworth with a Democrat – Rodney Glassman or Rudy Garcia.

You can come to our DFA-MC meetings (see sidebar for speakers) and learn about the issues we have to fight for or against and meet our candidates. If YOU CARE … you must do something.

Help with "Talking Points"

There seems to be a lot of Republican revisionist history going around: Rudy Giuliani claimed “we had no domestic attacks under Bush — we’ve had one under Obama.” Then we had Mary Matalin: “We inherited a recession from President Clinton and we inherited the most tragic attack on our own soil in our nation’s history,” she told host John King on “State of the Union.” Then there are those that say that Obama is not saying “terrorist” enough or he didn’t speak out about the Christmas Day event for 10 days.

These are just some of the things we will have to counter in this election year. We will also have to respond to “it is all Janet’s fault” or it’s all the “Democrats’ fault” in Arizona.

Update on Arpaio Honduras Connection

For once, Sheriff Joe has caved in to public pressure and the media and has suspened his controversial foreign aid project to Honduras, telling KTAR that “until we get out of this budget crunch, we’re going to put it on hold.” The MCSO attempted to provide cover for this waste of RICO funds saying it was to track the MS-13 gang, but never explained why they have never sent anyone working on gangs to the country, and instead sent two traffic investigators, a homicide investigator and an aviation expert. Let’s just hope that this doesn’t end the investigation.A new report by Channel 12 states that the operation spent 34 of payroll, 125 hours of overtime, nearly $6,800 in shipping costs, and charged to a MCSO credit card $2,976 to buy measuring equipment, traffic accident templates and fingerprint kits that were given to the Honduran government–all paid for with YOUR tax dollars. Again, if this is an anti-gang project, why do they need traffic accident templates? What is even more revealing is that the story reports Maricopa County Attorney Andy Thomas is the person responsible for approving these funds!

Contact your county supervisor and tell them you want to get to the bottom of this waste of money!

Sheriff “I am above the law!” Arpaio is at it again. He can’t seem to squander the Maricopa County budget fast enough in our own country; he has to go to Honduras to break the bank. What? You think the bank isn’t broke? Well, if you can’t buy staples and paper clips…
